The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter’s annual research symposium will take place Tuesday, October 11 at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, IL. The Alzheimer’s Association Annual Research Symposium offers one track for healthcare, wellness and geriatric professionals, and another for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their families and caregivers, and is designed to provide insight into current dementia research. Educational sessions include the latest evidence on modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline, current advances in the utilization of biomarkers, prevention studies leading to a cure and how to maintain the brain’s function as we age.
Featured family session keynote speaker Beverly Sanborn, LCSW, Gerontologist for Belmont Village Senior Living, is a nationally recognized expert in dementia care who specializes in translating research into fun, therapeutic programs for cognitive enrichment. She was recently invited to join a panel of leading researchers at the Alzheimer’s Association’s International Conference in Toronto, Canada to discuss improvements in dementia care practice.
At the October Symposium, Sanborn will discuss her “Whole Brain Fitness” lifestyle, designed to maintain the brain’s function as we age, with the goal of slowing cognitive decline. She’ll explain the research behind the program, to give a better understanding of how and why it works and then take attendees through some interactive exercises to demonstrate the most effective types of mental work-outs.
