Extended family in Colombia may help scientists prevent Alzheimer’s disease
Antioquia, Colombia, is home to the largest concentration of people with a rare genetic mutation that makes them nearly 100 percent certain to develop Alzheimer’s disease. “60 Minutes” reports on a family at the center of a multimillion-dollar, National Institutes of Health study. The Alzheimer’s Association has led additional public/private funding to the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute to further research to determine if Alzheimer’s disease may be preventable.
