A Mediterranean diet — eating more vegetables, fish, legumes, olive oil and other foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids while avoiding red meat and dairy products — may help lower the risk of cognitive decline, a new study shows. Researchers found that seniors following a Mediterranean diet were 19 percent less likely to develop thinking and memory problems. However, study participants with diabetes did not experience any benefit in those areas.
