Blood pressure drugs may help reduce Alzheimer’s plaques

Drugs commonly taken to control high blood pressure, called angiotensin receptor blockers, may reduce the amount of plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s, a new study shows. The study could not determine whether these drugs improve mental function in people with Alzheimer’s, but the researchers pointed out there is a connection between blood pressure and brain health and that the choice of drugs to lower blood pressure may make a difference in maintaining brain function.

As a caregiver for 14 years, Dr. Neil Quinn recognizes the face of Alzheimer’s. He lost his wife, Ann, to the disease after a very long battle.

Throughout their journey, Dr. Quinn and his family sought support from the Alzheimer’s Association, through national programs and local support services.

To demonstrate his continued commitment to the cause, Neil has generously agreed to donate $10,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association if we can raise this same amount during World Alzheimer’s Month. This means your gift of $25 can double to $50, and $50 can double to $100! Any amount you give can have twice the impact in our mission to eliminate Alzheimer’s.

We are asking you to join the battle against this disease. You can make a difference for the millions of Americans living with Alzheimer’s. Speak up for those who need your support by donating today and help us continue to strive for a world without Alzheimer’s disease.

Client’s Testimonials about Optimum Senior Care on Caring.com

I am a current client of this provider. A caregiver from Optimum Senior Care takes care of my mother. She has Alzheimer’s. They were so accommodating. They were able to find us an Italian speaking caregiver since my mother only speaks Italian now. They’ve always worked with us on the flexibility of their schedule. Originally, I only needed them a couple of days a week and now we’ve bumped it up. I found them online, and they turned out to be great. They’re really willing to help you with your situation. They’ve been very easy to work with and I would highly recommend them.                                                Posted by Mary P. September 06, 2012

I am a past client of this provider. We found Optimum Senior Care very helpful and accommodating. They showed up and made sure they met with my mother-in-law first and assessed her needs. They tried to find a good match in the people that cared for her. While my mother-in-law was in the hospital, they brought two people and she was able to meet them both and decide which one she was most comfortable with. We appreciated that because it gave her a little more choice in the matter. When the caregiver had to be gone, it was always handled efficiently. The people that replaced her on the days she had off were there on time. It was as smooth a transition as you can have in that situation. Overall we were very pleased with the service of the caregivers and the administration portion of it.
