ALZ Stars participate in Marathon

For the third year, the ALZ Stars will participate in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, which will be held on October 7 in Grant Park. The ALZ Stars is an endurance program set to benefit the care support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Team members will be provided with a training plan, fundraising guidance, and the camaraderie of a team participating to achieve the same vision. On race day team members will be able to enjoy exclusive access to the ALZ Stars tent, and amenities.

The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter’s Care Navigation program is a great service to use if you or a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related form of dementia. Our mission is to empower and support individuals with dementia and their loved ones on their care journey by assisting them to recognize their strengths, assess their current needs, develop a care plan that maximizes their available resources, and by strengthening the network of community services and organizations equipped to serve them.

Volunteer Spotlight: Ekta Hattangady

Ekta Hattangady, a volunteer in the Chicago office, comes to us with a great wealth of knowledge and expertise. Not only is she a humanitarian, but she also has her Master’s Degree in Social Work and a personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease. Ekta was a primary caregiver to her mother who had early-onset Alzheimer’s disease while living in India. She has worked in the non-profit sector in India for six years and has been a vocal speaker and advocate for mental illnesses.

Event held to reach Latino community

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 the Alzheimer’s Association in partnership with State Representative Maria “Toni” Berrios hosted an event to help reach out to the Hispanic community. In all, more than 30 people attended the event which was all in Spanish.
