"Modern Family" auction supports the Alzheimer’s Association

Fans of the Emmy Award-winning ABC show “Modern Family” can bid on the chance to tour the show’s set and watch a taping while helping to fight Alzheimer’s. Proceeds from the online auction will benefit the 20th Anniversary Alzheimer’s Association “A Night at Sardi’s” taking place March 21. The annual gala and musical revue features celebrities from television, stage and screen performing selections from Broadway’s most-beloved musicals.

Alzheimer’s to cost the United States $200 billion this year

According to the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2012 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, caring for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the United States an estimated $200 billion in 2012. This includes $140 billion paid by Medicare and Medicaid. In addition, one out of seven of the estimated 5.4 million Americans with Alzheimer’s live alone, with up to half not having an identifiable caregiver.
