Subaru has chosen the Alzheimer’s Association as one of the six charities to compete for a spot in their annual “Share the Love” event. From November 21 through January 2, for every Subaru vehicle, leased or sold, Subaru will make a charitable donation in the amount of $250 to the buyer’s choice of the five participating charities. We could ultimately join 4 other outstanding charities to receive a portion of $5 million dollars.

Only the top two charities get to participate, so we need you. Help the Alzheimer’s Association “Share the Love” by voting right now and each day until August 26. There are only 2 days left, so hurry-and tell a friend!

September – Take action during World Alzheimer’s Month, October – Promote our new Alzheimer’s Navigator

http://www.alz.org/about_us_about_us_.asp

Recently the Alzheimer’s Association was named the top large nonprofit to work for by The NonProfit Times. This marks the second year in a row that the Association has made the list, partially due to our programs for employees, including caregiver support groups and elder care leave. We hope that through this newsletter, we can share some of our tools with you, making it easier for Alzheimer’s caregivers in the workplace.

Please plan ahead to promote these initiatives.

September – Take action during World Alzheimer’s Month

September is World Alzheimer’s Month and a great opportunity to Go Purple at work to fight Alzheimer’s. Host a fundraising event like Purple for a Purpose and encourage employees to dress down in exchange for a small donation. Work with your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter to host an educational session or support group at the office. Alzheimer’s Action Day, Sept. 21, is a perfect day to hold your event! More ideas on how to Go Purple at work.

Beginning in September, visit alz.org/WAM to see a full list of activities and ideas on how you can join the fight. And on Sept.21, we’ll send you a link to the just-released 2012 World Alzheimer’s Report, revealing the state of Alzheimer’s disease across the globe.

October – Promote our new Alzheimer’s Navigator

Balance between work and family is a necessity, and for a caregiver of someone with Alzheimer’s, it’s especially important. For employees who have expressed challenges caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s, the Alzheimer’s Association Alzheimer’s Navigator can serve as a guide to create a care plan. Navigator asks those facing the disease to answer a series of questions and responds with a customized plan and resources to help with any challenge. Share Alzheimer’s Navigator with your employees using this article.
