Today is the last day of the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® 2013 (AAIC®) in Boston, where the Association has been hosting thousands of the world’s leading Alzheimer’s disease and dementia researchers. Members of the Alzheimer’s scientific community are gathering to share new discoveries, and collaborate on innovative ideas in a forum that drives dementia science forward towards a cure.

For the first time ever, AAIC hosted a special event titled “Alzheimer’s Disease and the Workplace: A Corporate Roundtable”. With more than 15 million Americans caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, the goals of this roundtable were to openly discuss the impact and challenges that the disease has on the workplace. Items for discussion included the financial, physical and emotional effect of caregiving on employees, Alzheimer’s Association education and support programs available to companies and ways companies have championed this cause in their workplaces.

In addition, below are just a few of the breaking announcements that are emerging from AAIC and we encourage you to share the information and video links below with your employees and the public to highlight these exciting advancements. We are proud to partner with you as together we accelerate the movement to end Alzheimer’s disease.

People who survive most forms of cancer were less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease, and those treated with chemotherapy got even more protection, according to a study of 3.5 million military veterans presented at AAIC. Researchers found an inverse relationship between Alzheimer’s and most types of cancer but not prostate cancer and melanoma, which are largely detected through screening rather than symptoms.
