Up to one-third of dementia cases worldwide could be prevented by addressing factors such as education, hypertension, diet, hearing loss and depression over the course of a person’s lifetime, according to a new report presented at last week’s Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® 2017 in London. Compiled by the first Lancet Commission on Dementia Prevention and Care, the report identifies nine risk factors over a person’s life span. Researchers considered each factor separately and how they related to one another to calculate how much modification of each may affect a person’s dementia risk.
