Did you know that you can choose to support the Greater Illinois Chapter through your United Way giving? Please ask your company’s United Way campaign manager for a special card so that you can designate your donations to support the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter. Since 2008, the Greater Illinois Chapter has received more than $150,000through the annual United Way campaign to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research. These funds are critical in our efforts to provide programs and services and to support research into treatments and a cure for Alzheimer’s – the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

On Friday, September 27, the Chicago White Sox team is offering specially priced tickets to the Alzheimer’s Association, family, friends and members of the Alzheimer’s Association’s community! Tickets that typically sell for $53 and $32 will be marked down to $35 and $17, respectively, with $5 from every purchase benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.
A fireworks display will follow the 7:10 p.m. game between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals.

And calling all Cubs fans. The Alzheimer’s Association will have a special on-field pre-game ceremony at the 7:05 p.m. Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game Tuesday, September 24.

We are seeking volunteers to help as we gear up for the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Sunday, October 13. We have a lot of fun and exciting opportunities to help the cause and support our amazing ALZ Stars endurance athletes.
Chicago Marathon Expo
Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 at McCormick Place
3-4 hour shifts available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Volunteers will man the Alzheimer’s Association booth, handing out participant shirts to team members who stop by and answering questions. The expo is an exciting event and volunteers will meet new people and wish ALZ Star runners good luck on their race.

Charity Mile Cheer Stop
Sunday, October 13 at Whitney Young High School
From 6 to 11:30 a.m.
Volunteers will cheer for marathon participants at the race’s halfway point. The ALZ Stars team looks forward to seeing smiling faces at this point in the marathon to keep them going!
Race Day Pre- and Post-Team Event
Sunday, October 13
4-5-hour shifts available from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Volunteers will assist with set-up, clean-up, gear check and cheering as team members arrive at the post-race party.

Volunteers Create Impact
The Alzheimer’s Association® Greater Illinois Chapter would like to recognize its 1,702 volunteers in the fight against Alzheimer’s. These volunteers have worked with the chapter, putting in 11,783 hours, valued at $260,875 from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2012. The value is derived from the Independent Sector, a coalition of charities, foundations, corporations, and individuals that publishes research important to the nonprofit sector. It reports annual statistics on the estimated dollar value of volunteer time.
